Each year, I marvel at the similarities between the start of the school year and the holiday of Rosh Hashana. We know that every Jewish holiday reconnects us to the spiritual energy of that time in history. On Pesah, it’s freedom; on Sukkot, it's joy. What happened on Rosh Hashana?

Rosh Hashana brings us back to the very beginning of creation when everything existed only in potential, including our precious souls. There are no failures, disappointments, mistakes, or dashed dreams. We can tap into that energy of newness, cut free from our insecurities, and look forward to creating a bright future.

Here at school, we are excited to start the new year right by recognizing the unique greatness within each child. There are no exceptions. Each student has a Neshama that is pure and lofty, and we are meant to unleash its dazzling light onto the world. There is a wonderful energy that can be felt in the classrooms as teachers nurture our youngest students within their brand new environment and encourage them to embrace all that is new with confidence and enthusiasm.

Our first weeks at Hillel Yeshiva ELC were filled with the taste of apples dipped in honey, the sounds of the Shofar, songs about friendship, and shouts of “Shana Tova!” Exciting festivities included musical Rosh Hashana programs and “Shofar Demos,” a real beekeeper, and hands-on applesauce making! Please ask your children about the Missvot that they can do and about the meaningful customs that accompany this holiday. You’ll be amazed at their level of understanding and their eagerness to embrace the concepts that have been taught!

I welcome every parent to join us as we greet the wonderful potential of a new year for you, your children, and the entire Hillel Yeshiva family. May Hashem continue to bless us with Hatzlacha, the best of health, and the fulfillment of all of our heartfelt Tefilot.
