This week in Parashat Nissavim, Moshe reminds Benei Yisrael that the Torah is “not in the heavens” but close to us, in our mouths and hearts, to live by. The message is clear: Judaism is not meant to remain abstract or out of reach.
As we approach Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur, our charge is to take the lofty ideals we have learned and make them real in our classrooms, homes, and community.
We kicked off the week with exciting Hiking and Apple Picking trips. During the hike, our students got to play amazing games led by the Ohayons. What incredible days we had! It was a great bonding experience for everyone.
We then used those apples to make chocolate-covered apples with sprinkles, Oreos, cinnamon, Fruity Pebbles, and marshmallows in honor of Rosh Hashana and to remind everyone to keep Core Values.
On Tuesday, we started our Better Together program where our students and seniors played a “Get to Know Me” game, made candy apples, and enjoyed a delicious lunch together.
Mrs. Litz’s 8th graders collaborated to sequence the Bill of Rights in preparation for their upcoming quiz.
Throughout the week, our Bnot Sherot, Esther and Ayelet Hashachar, went class to class to play a “Get to Know Me” game.
To celebrate Rosh Hodesh, students enjoyed delicious Dough Co. donuts generously sponsored by the parents of Miriam Smeke, Shelly Cohen, and Oved Cohen. Thank you!
Mabrouk to Eddie Blanco and Jake Bach on their in-school Bar Mitzvah celebrations. Mabrouk to Gabby Shamah on her in-school Bat Mitzvah. Each simhah was beautiful, with our students dancing and celebrating with their rabbis and Morot.
This week, four of our students, Juliette Zakaria, Alexis Kaplan, Joey Nasar, and Robert Braha, participated in an advocacy mission arranged by the Teach NJ coalition. They met with local politicians alongside Councilwoman Gitta Kaplan to lobby for school safety. We are proud of their leadership and commitment to making a difference in our community.
Our Math and Language Arts teachers also completed the first round of Star testing. We are so proud of our students’ hard work and the impressive progress they have made.
On Friday, Rabbi Hazan made a special Siyum in memory of his mother A”H with our 8th grade boys, and the entire 7th and 8th grade heard words of inspiration for the Yamim Noraim from Rabbi Moshe Malka.
We closed the week with our Rosh Hodesh MVP (Most Valuable Prayer) Finale Raffle. Our students continue to inspire with their incredible tefillot!
Shabbat Shalom! Tizku Lishanim Rabot!
